Hobsons Inland Sea Shanty Singers

A troup of inland sea shanty singers fueled by Hobsons real ales!

The troup was formed in September 2009 after a walking group wanted something different to do in the winter months. Inspired by the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival, a group of 14 blokes from the North Herefordshire area - most of whom have never done anything like this in public before formed Europe's most inland sea shanty group.

The group sponsored by Hobsons Brewery and John Amos & Co set out to provide a new form of live entertainment to get people into their local pubs, using the facility to meet up, have a good time and join in for a good sing along. With 12 months under their belts the groups' song list has expanded to about 20 songs and they are planning another 8-10 this season for their 'Twisted Spire' tour.

The troupe goes out most Thursdays from September to April, singing shanties in local pubs (Oh!....and drinking beer at the same "). They have raised almost £3,000 for charities in the last 12 months. Hobsons' Choice bring you a range of shanties, ballads and other rip roaring, rollicking sea songs, telling tales of heaving, hauling, wrenching and washed down with plenty of grog! They offer plenty of audience participation and what they lack in musical talent is more than made up for in enthusiasm and good old fashioned sing along pub entertainment!

With regular performances on a Thursday night, the group is on the look out for new local venues this autumn. The group do not charge for their services but welcome a collection for charity.
